The 2015 Bayreuth Festival opened Saturday with Tristan und Isolde, devastating well conducted by Christian Thielemann. It was broadcast live on many European stations, but now can be heard again on repeat HERE. Orchestrally, it reaches very deep into the inner spirit of the opera. It’s as if the ocean is singing along, its tides controlled by malevolent cosmic forces. This connects to the sense of curse that haunts Tristan, doomed before he was even born. Tristan und Isolde isn’t about colourful tapestries and fake medievalism. It’s a cosmic drama of the human soul. This is a performance to remember. Absolutely recommended ! Please read my initial review HERE – the more I listen, the more I’m getting from listening.
